60 Minutes airs shocking Trump report despite
Despite facing a lawsuit from Donald Trump, CBS aired a controversial episode of 60 Minutes focused on legal actions taken by his administration. The lawsuit, filed in November 2024, accused the network of election interference following an interview with Kamala Harris. In response, 60 Minutes host Scott Pelley criticized CBS’ parent company, Paramount, for allegedly tightening control over the show’s editorial content, especially as Paramount seeks approval from the Trump administration for a merger deal. Pelley praised outgoing executive producer Bill Owens for resigning rather than compromising journalistic integrity.
The episode, titled How law firms targeted by Trump are responding to White House pressure, aired on May 4 and explored lawsuits Trump has filed against various U.S. law firms. Pelley noted it was “near impossible” to find participants willing to speak on the record. The only person who agreed to be interviewed was Mark Alias, a lawyer and longtime critic of Trump. The situation has highlighted tensions between media independence and political pressure, particularly as Paramount’s business interests intersect with presidential approval.
