Former Dem Senator Says Only Trump
Former Democratic Senator Joe Manchin surprised Fox News viewers on Friday by declaring that former President Donald Trump is the only person capable of “bringing the country together” after the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, 31, was killed earlier this week, an event that has deepened America’s political divisions and sparked fierce debate between Democrats and Republicans.
Following the tragedy, Trump and several GOP leaders accused Democrats of fostering a climate of hatred through years of rhetoric comparing Trump and his supporters to fascists and Nazis.
During his Fox News appearance, Manchin urged Americans to step back from escalating hostility and called on Trump to take a leadership role in calming tensions.
“Right now, Donald Trump is the person who can bring us together,” Manchin said, emphasizing that only Trump has the influence to reach both sides of the political spectrum.
The retired West Virginia senator, known for his centrist views, reiterated that unity must come before partisanship and ideology if the nation hopes to heal.
Manchin’s comments drew mixed reactions across Washington — praise from some conservatives who welcomed his appeal for unity, and disbelief from many Democrats who saw his remarks as an unexpected endorsement of the former president.
