Kamala Harris reveals surprising comment Trump made to her in private
Former Vice President Kamala Harris has reignited criticism of the Trump administration during her ongoing book tour across the U.S. Promoting her new memoir 107 Days, Harris reflects on her failed 2024 presidential campaign and her attempt to become America’s first female president.
Harris entered the race after Joe Biden’s withdrawal, but despite early expectations of a close contest, Donald Trump ultimately secured a decisive victory. Her book details the emotional toll of the loss, which she compares to “the death of her mother,” and she refers to Trump as a “con man.”
During an appearance at the Day of Unreasonable Conversation summit in Los Angeles on October 6, Harris made headlines for calling members of the Trump administration “merfers.” Her remark quickly went viral, sparking both laughter and applause from the audience.
Speaking to attendees, Harris urged writers and storytellers to channel the emotions of the current political climate into their work, saying, “We are living history right now… give those emotions to the people you’re writing about.”
She added, “There’s so much about this moment that makes people feel like they’ve lost their minds — when in fact, these merfers are crazy!” Harris laughed along with the cheering crowd, later calling her appearances “The Freedom Tour.”
Reflecting on election night, Harris told The Hollywood Reporter she was overcome with grief, saying, “I had never felt that level of pain except when my mother died.”
Her book also recounts a private call from Trump following the second assassination attempt against him, where he allegedly told her, “I’m going to tone it down. You’re going to see.”
