Real meaning behind the phrase ‘six-seven’

Every generation develops its own humor and slang, often leaving older generations puzzled. One such phrase confusing adults today is “six-seven.”

The term, written as “6-7,” has gone viral on social media platforms like TikTok, causing younger users to laugh while older people struggle to understand it.

In reality, “six-seven” has no meaning at all. That’s precisely why it amuses Gen Z and Gen Alpha so much. Already, over 1.1 million TikTok videos feature the phrase.

The trend began with hip-hop artist Skrilla’s 2024 song Doot Doot, where he raps, “6-7, I just bipped right on the highway.” TikTok educators note that kids now respond with “six-seven” to almost any question, from “What time is it?” to “What’s that smell?”

The phrase is primarily a meme—a fun number to say, often paired with hand gestures, but it carries no deeper meaning.

Teachers, however, are less entertained. Classrooms have been disrupted, with students chanting “6-7” at inappropriate times. Some educators have even banned the phrase to maintain order.

Despite its chaotic impact on schools, the “six-seven” trend continues to thrive online, leaving older generations baffled while younger users enjoy the absurd humor of a joke that literally means nothing.
