Federal Investigation Targets AOC Over Alleged Hiring of Undocumented Worker
Federal officials have reportedly launched an investigation into Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) following claims that she knowingly employed an undocumented worker and assisted others in avoiding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to former ICE Director Tom Homan, the Department of Homeland Security is reviewing evidence suggesting that one of Ocasio-Cortez’s staffers, allegedly undocumented, may have helped others evade detection. Homan confirmed to commentator Benny Johnson that the case is under federal review, saying ICE was asked to “examine the situation closely.”
If substantiated, the allegations could constitute serious violations of immigration law, including the harboring or employment of unauthorized immigrants and obstructing enforcement operations.
The inquiry reportedly centers on Diego de la Vega, who served as Ocasio-Cortez’s Deputy Communications Director beginning in 2022. De la Vega, known for his political activism, previously worked with Democratic lawmakers while undocumented and left the U.S. earlier this year amid renewed immigration enforcement.
Sources within DHS say Homan referred the case to the Department of Justice after reports surfaced that Ocasio-Cortez’s office hosted seminars advising undocumented residents on how to avoid ICE operations — a move critics say may have crossed legal lines.
Ocasio-Cortez’s office has not commented on the probe but has previously dismissed similar accusations as politically driven. The congresswoman has long supported immigration reform and criticized federal enforcement tactics as “inhumane.”
While no charges have been filed, legal experts note the case could lead to ethics or criminal proceedings if violations are confirmed — reinforcing the principle that “no one is above the law.”
