After Missing Episodes, Mark Consuelos Opens Up About His First Colonoscopy
Mark Consuelos recently explained his unexpected absence from Live with Kelly and Mark: he had his first colonoscopy at age 54. The actor admitted the procedure was long overdue, sparking discussions about the importance of routine health screenings.
On the November 17 episode, after Kelly Ripa highlighted the risks of neglecting preventive care, Consuelos revealed he had quietly undergone the procedure weeks prior. “I’m 54… that’s late,” he said, referencing guidelines recommending colonoscopies start at 45.
He described the experience humorously, noting he was under anesthesia, felt unusually relaxed, and was distracted by a nurse he found attractive. He joked about trying to set her up with their youngest son, Joaquin, 22. Ripa added that he returned home “hungry and wild,” confirming the results were clear.
Fans had speculated about his absence, with comedian Steve Patterson filling in as co-host. Ripa teased viewers, joking that Mark might be “still out on the course” with marathon runners in New York City, keeping the mystery alive.
This wasn’t Consuelos’ first health mishap. In September, he injured his arm in his sleep after a vivid dream, resulting in a minor tendon tear. Despite the injury, he continued hosting demanding segments before seeking medical advice.
He also shared a humorous incident in Campobasso, Italy, where he pulled a muscle taking a penalty kick and ended up in his underwear at the team trainer’s facility, much to his embarrassment.
Through colonoscopies, tendon tears, and travel mishaps, Consuelos’ candid stories highlight the need to prioritize health. Fans appreciated his humor, while the story serves as a reminder for those in their 40s and 50s to schedule screenings and listen to their bodies.
