Hidden Room Uncovered by FBI Chief Patel Holds Burn Bags Packed With Trump–Russia Files
FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that a set of documents related to the Russia investigation was discovered in a secret bureau room, hidden inside “burn bags.”
The documents reportedly include the classified annex of former Special Counsel John Durham’s final report, detailing the intelligence he reviewed about the origins of the FBI’s inquiry into Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. Durham concluded that, based on the information available at the time, the investigation should not have been opened.
A source told the Daily Mail that the records may have been preserved due to errors by previous directors. They added that without the FBI’s methodical review, the documents might never have been found.
The FBI plans to release the findings publicly after sharing them with Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Judiciary Committee. President Trump expressed support for full disclosure, saying he wants wrongdoing exposed and believes Democrats orchestrated the investigation.
A “burn bag” is used by government agencies to destroy sensitive or classified material through shredding or incineration. Patel, once a critic of the bureau, has reorganized parts of the agency and promised greater transparency, particularly regarding the 2016 Russia probe known as “Crossfire Hurricane.”
Durham’s report described the inquiry as “seriously flawed” but found no criminal activity. It also rejected Trump’s claim that Robert Mueller’s investigation was a “witch hunt,” though it confirmed Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Additional officials, including former intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard, have suggested Russia had compromising material on Hillary Clinton but withheld it until after the election. Patel continues reviewing the hidden documents as new information emerges.
