Lip reader ‘reveals’ what Trump said to Canadian PM Mark Carney at FIFA World Cup draw, with instruction for Melania

US President Donald Trump appeared to give First Lady Melania Trump a small encouragement during the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw ceremony, according to a lip reader’s interpretation.

The event, held on December 5 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., brought together Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The three leaders attended as representatives of the host nations for the upcoming tournament.

Despite recent tensions caused by Trump’s tariff policies, the leaders shared the stage and watched a live performance together during the ceremony.

UK lip reader Jeremy Freeman told the New York Post that Trump seemed to make several light-hearted comments to Carney as The Village People performed their hit song “YMCA.” At one point, Trump appeared to mouth along to the lyrics.

Freeman suggested that Trump told Carney, “I love this,” and later added, “Come on, they make me happy,” while moving to the music. Trump also appeared to gesture toward Melania, telling her, “Come on, join in.”

Before the event, Trump told reporters that relations among the three countries were improving and mentioned an upcoming meeting.

Following the draw, the leaders held a private 50-minute discussion with no staff present. Carney’s spokesperson later emphasized that the day was focused on Canada’s role in co-hosting the World Cup, while U.S. trade officials noted ongoing discussions about restructuring trade agreements.
