Marjorie Taylor Greene details ‘furious’ phone call with Trump lashing out over Epstein files
Marjorie Taylor Greene says Donald Trump reacted with anger after she announced her plan to resign from Congress. The Georgia Republican, once one of Trump’s strongest allies, described his response during her first national interview since revealing her decision.
Greene recently voted to release additional documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a move she claims caused Trump to turn against her. She later announced on social media that she will officially leave Congress on January 5, 2026.
In her resignation letter, Greene criticized the backlash she received, saying she should not be branded a traitor for supporting victims who were abused and trafficked by powerful men. She added that she refused to behave like someone silently enduring mistreatment.
Greene said Trump became enraged after learning she had signed a petition supporting the release of Epstein-related files. In an interview with 60 Minutes reporter Leslie Stahl, she said Trump was “extremely angry” about her decision.
She also shared that she would not put her family or her district through a damaging primary fight backed by Trump, especially after he spent large sums opposing her. Greene argued that expecting her to defend him later would be unreasonable.
Although Trump reportedly opposed releasing the Epstein files, he ultimately signed a bill requiring the Justice Department to disclose the documents within 30 days, including records tied to Epstein’s death.
Greene reiterated her commitment to Epstein’s victims, saying they deserve full transparency. When asked what Trump specifically told her, she said only that he warned the release “was going to hurt people.” A White House spokesperson insisted Trump has consistently supported transparency regarding the case.
