Relative of Karoline Leavitt savagely calls her out in first interview after being released from ICE custody
Bruna Ferreira, the mother of the White House press secretary’s nephew, has publicly criticized Karoline Leavitt after spending nearly a month in ICE detention. Ferreira was taken into custody in November and says the experience left her fearful of deportation.
On November 12, the Massachusetts resident was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement while on her way to pick up her 11-year-old son. She was transferred to a detention facility in Louisiana, more than 1,500 miles from where she was arrested.
After 26 days in custody, an immigration judge approved her release on a $1,500 bond. Ferreira shares a child with Michael Leavitt, the press secretary’s brother, though the couple separated years ago.
In an interview with CNN, the 33-year-old directly addressed Karoline Leavitt, questioning her values as both a Catholic and a mother. Ferreira said the situation could happen to anyone and emphasized that no one is immune under the law.
Ferreira claims she has not spoken to Leavitt since her detention and has been unable to see her son. She also said she is restricted to her home with a GPS ankle monitor, despite attempting to make contact.
The White House stated that the child has always lived with his father in New Hampshire and not with Ferreira, a claim she and her lawyers strongly dispute. DHS has labeled her an “illegal alien,” alleging prior legal issues she denies.
Ferreira insists she has lived in the US since childhood and has no criminal record. Her attorney says she previously had DACA protection and is now facing unfair treatment, calling the situation part of a broader pattern affecting many families.
