Rob And Michele Reiner’s Family Break Silence After Their Murder

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered dead inside their Los Angeles home on Sunday afternoon, triggering a homicide investigation and widespread mourning across Hollywood. Police responded to the Brentwood residence in mid-afternoon and said the deaths are being treated as an apparent homicide, with no suspect identified in the early stages.

In a statement released by the family, relatives confirmed the deaths and requested privacy. They described the loss as sudden and devastating, asking for space as they grieve and as authorities continue their investigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers arrived at about 3:40 p.m., while the fire department responded shortly beforehand to a medical aid call. A man and a woman, aged 78 and 68, were found dead inside the home. Law enforcement sources said both victims had suffered stab wounds.

Police officials stressed that no arrests had been made and no one was in custody. Investigators said they were not actively seeking a suspect at that time and were focused on gathering facts, including speaking with family members to establish a timeline.

Reports citing unnamed sources suggested the couple may have been killed by their adult son, but police have not confirmed this and have publicly named no suspect. Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains in its early stages.

Tributes poured in from public officials and figures in the entertainment industry. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom praised Reiner’s cultural impact, empathy and advocacy, calling his death a profound loss.

Reiner was a major figure in American film and television, first gaining fame on All in the Family before directing classics such as Stand by Me, The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally…. He and Singer Reiner, married since 1989, were longtime partners in both creative and civic life.
