Fans are saying the same thing after Trump ‘fumbles’ coin toss at football game
President Donald Trump’s unusual coin toss at the Army–Navy football game sparked widespread amusement online, with many viewers mocking the awkward moment and questioning how he managed to flip the coin so strangely.
The 126th Army–Navy game took place on Saturday, December 13, at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium, continuing the long-standing tradition between the two military academies.
As Commander-in-Chief, Trump presided over the pregame ceremony and was invited by the referee to perform the ceremonial coin toss, while bundled up against the cold in a winter coat, scarf, and leather gloves.
After Army called tails, Trump placed the coin on his palm, asked the teams if they were ready, and then lifted his arm, tossing the coin straight upward with almost no spin at all.
The moment quickly went viral, prompting social media users to poke fun at the toss. Many joked they had never seen someone fail so badly at flipping a coin, comparing it to releasing a baby bird or throwing a knuckleball.
Commentators and fans from across the political spectrum joined in, with some noting that regardless of political views, everyone could agree it was not a good coin toss.
Despite the coin landing on tails and giving Army possession, Navy went on to win the close game 17–16. This marked Trump’s sixth time attending the Army–Navy game, continuing a presidential tradition dating back to 1901.
