Trump tweet resurfaces showing how he wished nation a Merry Christmas compared to Obama

Donald Trump has frequently criticized the use of the phrase “Happy Holidays,” arguing that it replaces and undermines “Merry Christmas,” which he has strongly promoted throughout his political career.

At rallies and public events, Trump has repeatedly claimed that Democrats were trying to remove the word “Christmas” from public language. During a December 2020 rally in Georgia, he told supporters that he had helped bring the phrase “Merry Christmas” back into common use.

He also suggested that before his political rise, Americans had become hesitant to openly say “Merry Christmas,” describing the situation as part of what he viewed as a growing “woke” culture.

In a 2021 Christmas special hosted by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Trump was praised for allegedly restoring the phrase. Huckabee claimed Trump had deliberately reversed a cultural trend away from saying “Merry Christmas.”

Trump agreed with this assessment, stating that major retailers once avoided the phrase despite wanting customers’ money. He claimed that his campaign encouraged people to say it proudly again.

However, social media users later uncovered an apparent contradiction. In December 2010, Trump himself posted a message wishing everyone a “very Happy Holiday season.”

While some defended Trump by pointing out it was not Christmas Day when he posted the message, others found irony in his use of the very phrase he later criticized so strongly.
