Billionaire Bill Ackman Makes
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman confirmed that he was the largest donor to a GoFundMe campaign supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross, who was involved in a controversial shooting in Minneapolis that left 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good dead. Ackman’s contribution thrust him into the center of a heated national discussion about law enforcement and public funding for controversial figures.
Good, a mother of three, was killed during an ICE operation earlier this month when authorities say she attempted to drive her vehicle in a way that threatened officers. Federal officials described the situation as life-threatening for agents.
The fatal encounter quickly divided public opinion, prompting protests in several cities and intense scrutiny of ICE tactics. Some local leaders and critics challenged the justification for the use of deadly force.
Ackman’s $10,000 donation appeared under the name “William Ackman” on the fundraising page for Ross, and he later confirmed on social media that the contribution was his. He said his intent was to uphold the principle that individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
He also stated that he planned to donate to the fundraiser for Good’s family but found that it had already closed after raising more than $1.5 million.
Supporters of Ackman’s action praised his emphasis on due process, while critics questioned the symbolism of backing a figure involved in a deadly confrontation.
The debate has highlighted broader tensions over policing, protests, and how public support is channeled in highly charged incidents.
