Is Trump facing impeachment?

Donald Trump is not facing an active impeachment in 2025 or 2026, yet the possibility continues to loom over Washington like an unresolved threat.

Several Democrats, including Representatives Shri Thanedar and Al Green, have introduced impeachment resolutions. They accuse Trump of abusing his authority and weakening democratic norms.

Because Republicans control Congress, these measures have little chance of advancing. Instead, they function largely as symbolic gestures rather than serious attempts to remove him from office.

Votes to set aside the impeachment efforts, some supported by Democrats themselves, highlight internal divisions. The party remains torn between principled opposition and strategic concerns about elections.

Trump’s earlier impeachments continue to influence the current political climate. He was impeached in 2019 over dealings with Ukraine and again in 2021 following the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

In both cases, the Senate acquitted him, outcomes that intensified partisan divides and strengthened loyalty among his supporters.

Now, impeachment serves less as an immediate legal process and more as a constant presence, reminding Washington that shifting political power could quickly turn a distant threat into reality.
