Woman Testifies About Suspect in Nancy Guthrie Case – He Is Her Son-in-Law

A typically peaceful neighborhood in Rio Rico, Arizona, drew national focus this week when police searched a modest home as part of the ongoing effort to locate 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Investigators acted on a tip suggesting Nancy might be inside the residence, marking a significant development in a case already receiving widespread attention because she is the mother of NBC Today co-host Savannah Guthrie.

The homeowner, Josefina, told reporters she fully cooperated and allowed officers to search the property, insisting she had nothing to conceal. She also confirmed her son-in-law, Carlos, was briefly detained but denied any connection between him and Nancy’s disappearance.

Josefina described officers repeatedly entering the home, photographing the scene, and showing her surveillance images from Nancy’s residence to ask whether the person pictured resembled her relative. She said it did not and added that her door had been forced open while she was away.

Despite the disruption, she expressed sympathy for the Guthrie family and hope that Nancy would be found safe. Later reports indicated police had obtained a search warrant and removed electronic devices for further examination.

Josefina said she only learned about the case through online coverage and described her son-in-law as a delivery driver. Video from local media also showed a heavy police presence in the area connected to the inquiry.

Authorities have not announced any charges, and the investigation remains active as officers review evidence and pursue new leads, while the community and Nancy’s family continue waiting for answers.
