Donald Trump claims it wasn’t US who bombed girls’ elementary school, killing 175 people
An international dispute has intensified after reports that a girls’ elementary school in Iran was hit during recent military actions. The incident has sparked competing accusations over who was responsible, with Donald Trump strongly rejecting claims that the United States carried out the strike.
On February 28, coordinated attacks by the United States and Israel targeted multiple sites across Iran, including areas in Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah. Officials said the strikes aimed to damage military infrastructure and disrupt Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program.
During the operation, a compound linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly destroyed, and Iranian authorities later confirmed his death. Both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the attacks, saying they were meant to stop nuclear escalation and weaken Iran’s leadership.
Amid the broader conflict, tragedy occurred in the southern city of Minab when drones struck an all-girls elementary school on the first day of the airstrikes. According to reports cited by BBC, 175 people were killed, including 151 children between the ages of seven and twelve.
Iranian officials quickly blamed the United States and Israel. President Masoud Pezeshkian called the attack a national tragedy that would remain in the country’s historical memory, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described it as a crime against civilians.
An investigation reported by The New York Times examined satellite images and online footage suggesting the school may have been unintentionally hit during a missile strike targeting nearby buildings. A naval facility belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was located close to the school.
When questioned on March 8, Trump denied U.S. involvement, saying he believed Iran was responsible and suggesting the damage may have been caused by inaccurate Iranian weapons. As the conflict continues and Iran launches retaliatory strikes across the region, the incident in Minab remains one of the most debated events of the ongoing crisis.
