Boy Survives Charger Shock

An eight-year-old boy narrowly survived a terrifying electrical accident after a phone charger in his bed reportedly left him seriously injured, turning an ordinary bedtime situation into a life-threatening emergency.

The child, Lorenzo Lopez, was in bed near a phone that was charging through an extension cord when the frightening incident happened. According to his mother, he was also wearing a necklace at the time. As he moved in bed, the necklace is believed to have slipped into the space between the charger and cord, creating a dangerous situation that led to a severe electric shock.

The moment quickly became critical. Lorenzo tried to call for help, but was unable to do so while the shock was happening. Despite the panic and pain, he managed to remove the necklace himself, a move that doctors later said may have saved his life.

His mother shared that medical staff told them the outcome could have been far worse if he had not acted in time. Lorenzo later reflected on the ordeal by saying he believed he had saved himself, while also admitting how frightened he was in that moment and how close he felt to dying.

The injuries were serious enough to require ongoing hospital treatment. Lorenzo is expected to remain under medical care for some time and has also needed skin graft surgery as part of his recovery. Reports say doctors used skin taken from his scalp, legs, and feet to help treat the damage caused by the electrical burns.

Although he is now recovering, the emotional and physical toll has been heavy on both Lorenzo and his family. In updates shared by his mother, she described difficult days during his hospital stay, saying he had been in pain, feeling sore, and growing homesick as recovery continued.

The family has also created a fundraising page to help with the medical costs connected to the accident. At the same time, Lorenzo’s mother is using the experience to warn other parents about the possible dangers of allowing children to sleep near plugged-in electronics or charging cords.

Her message is simple but urgent. She wants families to think twice before letting devices, chargers, or extension cords remain on a child’s bed overnight. What many people see as an everyday habit, she says, can turn dangerous in seconds.

The story has become a powerful reminder that common household items are not always as harmless as they seem. A cellphone charger is something most families use every day without concern, yet in the wrong circumstances, it can create a serious risk. Lorenzo’s survival is being seen not only as remarkable, but also as a warning others should take seriously.
