Mexico President: US
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum strongly opposed the Trump administration’s decision to classify eight major drug cartels as terrorist organizations.
The groups mentioned include powerful cartels such as Jalisco New Generation and Sinaloa, both known for drug trafficking and violence across Mexico and beyond.
Sheinbaum stated that Mexico would never allow foreign interference in its sovereignty or domestic affairs. She stressed that national independence must always be respected.
According to her, cooperation with the United States is possible only if it is built on equality and mutual respect, not on control or subordination.
The U.S. decision has raised concerns because it could justify stronger actions, including possible military operations against cartel groups inside Mexican territory.
Elon Musk, who currently leads the Department of Government Efficiency, suggested that these cartels could eventually become targets of U.S. drone strikes.
Although experts say a large-scale military attack is unlikely, the U.S. has already increased drone operations aimed at fentanyl labs in Mexico. In response, Mexico also warned that it would pursue legal action against American gun manufacturers if cartels receive the terrorist designation.
