Senate Confirms New SMDC Commanding General

Maj. Gen. John L. Rafferty Jr. has been approved by the U.S. Senate for promotion to lieutenant general and will take command of U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, marking a key achievement in his 33-year career. Currently serving as chief of staff at U.S. European Command in Germany, Rafferty brings extensive experience in field artillery, leadership, and strategic planning.

His past roles include commanding the 56th Artillery Command in Europe-Africa, serving as chief of Army Public Affairs, leading the Long Range Precision Fires team, and commanding the 18th Field Artillery Brigade.
