Kristin Pitzen, a teacher from Newport Mesa School District in Orange County, faced backlash after sharing a TikTok video where she admitted to removing the American flag from her classroom, saying it made her feel “uncomfortable.” Instead, she suggested her students pledge allegiance to the Pride flag, which upset many parents who saw it as disrespectful to the national flag. In the video, Pitzen humorously commented, “I packed [the flag] away… I don’t know where,” and noted that students had the choice of whether to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
