My Mother Married

At forty-five, my mother seemed happier than she had in years. After raising me alone, she had finally found love again with Aaron, a man who was only twenty-five.

While she looked full of hope, I felt nothing but suspicion. I smiled in front of them, but deep down I believed Aaron had hidden motives.

He was kind, thoughtful, and treated my mother with genuine care. To me, that perfection only made him seem more dangerous, as if he was hiding a plan.

My doubts pushed me too far. One day, while my mother was away, I searched through Aaron’s briefcase and found papers showing large debts and property connected to my mother’s name.

I convinced myself I had uncovered the truth—that he was using her for money and security. Without asking for an explanation, I decided to expose him during their wedding ceremony.

In front of family and friends, I revealed everything, believing I was protecting my mother. But I was completely wrong. The debt was actually a loan Aaron had taken to help fund my dream of opening a restaurant.

The property was meant to be the location for that future gift. Instead of saving my mother, I had ruined her happiest day and hurt a good man. Years later, I still work in that restaurant, reminded daily that the person my mother needed protection from was me.
