Trump speaks out after
Donald Trump described the White House Correspondents’ Dinner turning from a glamorous evening into a frightening security emergency after gunshots were heard during the event.
At first, Trump was seated beside Melania Trump and senior officials, preparing to deliver a strong and confrontational speech. The atmosphere had been formal and celebratory before the sudden disruption.
He said the first sound confused him, as he believed it was simply a tray falling, something common at large dinners. However, it quickly became clear that the noise was actually gunfire coming from outside the secure area.
Melania reportedly reacted faster, immediately recognizing the danger and warning that it was “a bad noise.” Within seconds, Secret Service agents moved in and rushed the president, first lady, and other officials away from the ballroom.
Trump later praised the fast response of the Secret Service and other law enforcement officers. He said the suspect had not managed to enter the protected zone before being stopped and taken down.
Although the evening was cancelled and many guests were left shocked by the frightening experience, Trump said he did not want violent people to control how public life continues in America.
He explained that while his original speech might never be delivered in the same form, he still plans for the dinner to return soon. He promised the event would be rescheduled, showing that fear would not decide the future.
