After graduating, Douglas served in the U.S. Navy before beginning a long career in aviation. He eventually became a captain with American Airlines, earning respect through dedication and professionalism.

Although he generally stayed away from public politics, he remained a dependable source of support for his father during important campaigns and challenging moments behind the scenes.

As loved ones gather at Princess Anne Country Club to honor his memory, the family has requested charitable donations in place of flowers. They encourage contributions to educational institutions or causes that reflect his values and lifelong commitment to service.

Douglas is survived by his wife Ashley, their children Caroline and Douglas Shepp Jr., and grandson Teddy. His legacy will live on through the memories, stories, and lasting impact he had on those closest to him.
