Expert Says Three Habits May Help Lower Dementia Risk
A dementia expert has warned that many cases of the condition may be linked to lifestyle factors that people can change.
Professor Catherine Mummery explained that staying active, keeping the brain engaged, and eating a healthy diet may help lower the risk of some types of dementia.
She said regular exercise is especially important. Getting out of breath through physical activity several times a week can support both heart and brain health.
Mental activity also matters. Reading, learning new skills, puzzles, and social contact may help keep the brain stronger for longer.
Diet is another key area. A balanced diet with nutritious foods can support overall health and may reduce risks linked to memory problems.
Experts stress that dementia cannot always be prevented. Age, genetics, and medical history still play a role. However, healthy daily habits may help delay or reduce the risk for some people.
