Pow:erful 7.7 Earth:quake Sha:kes Myanmar Near Mandalay
A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, causing panic and serious damage near Mandalay.
The quake hit on March 28, 2025, at a shallow depth, making the shaking especially dangerous for buildings, roads, and bridges. The tremor was felt across Myanmar and in nearby countries, including Thailand.
Reports said homes, public buildings, and key infrastructure were damaged. In some areas, bridges and roads were affected, making rescue and relief work more difficult.
Experts said the earthquake happened along the Sagaing Fault, one of Myanmar’s major fault lines. The strong movement was linked to pressure between the India and Eurasia tectonic plates.
Authorities and rescue teams worked to reach affected communities while aftershocks created more fear.
The disaster showed how quickly a major earthquake can damage cities and disrupt daily life.
