The Gulf of Mexico has officially been renamed the Gulf of America following an executive order by President Trump. The change was announced by the Department of the Interior, which praised the move as a restoration of America’s legacy. The Gulf was described as a key asset in the nation’s history, particularly for trade and commerce. The decision has sparked criticism, especially from Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, who reaffirmed that Mexico will continue to call it the Gulf of Mexico. While the U.S. will now use the new name, other countries, like the UK, will keep referring to it as the Gulf of Mexico unless the new name becomes more widely adopted. Additionally, the name of Mount McKinley in Alaska is also being restored to its original name, reflecting the administration’s focus on honoring American heritage.
