Donald Trump could be about to lift an almost 100-year-old law and it’s left people in complete shock

Donald Trump is considering lifting a nearly century-old firearms law on suppressors, sparking strong reactions. The 91-year-old legislation was introduced to combat Prohibition-era gang violence.

During his first term, Trump ended a 20-year ban on selling silencers to non-US citizens, originally enacted in 2002 to prevent their use by terror groups. Now, his administration is reviewing federal gun policies, aiming to reverse Biden-era restrictions.

Biden’s reforms included stricter background checks, funding for ‘red flag’ laws, and barring domestic abusers from gun ownership. However, gun-rights advocates see Trump’s move as a step toward eliminating suppressor regulations. Suppressors, which reduce gunshot noise by 20-35 decibels, are used by hunters for hearing protection.

Republican lawmakers are reintroducing the Hearing Protection Act to ease restrictions, arguing that gun owners should not face excessive regulations. Currently, suppressors require a $200 tax stamp and a lengthy approval process.

Opponents argue that suppressors are unnecessary and that inexpensive earplugs are a better alternative. The 1934 National Firearms Act aimed to curb their use in crime, but if repealed, purchasing a suppressor would become as simple as passing a quick background check.
