Pilot of helicopter that
A tragic helicopter crash occurred on April 10 in the Hudson River, New York, claiming the lives of all six people on board. The aircraft, operated by New York Helicopters, went down at around 3:17 PM. The pilot has been identified as Sean Johnson, a former Navy SEAL and celebrity bodyguard who later transitioned into aviation. Among the victims were Siemens executive Agustín Escobar from Barcelona, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three young children. The helicopter’s owner, Michael Roth, said Johnson had radioed in about needing fuel but never arrived as expected.
Johnson’s wife, Kathryn, expressed shock and heartbreak following the incident, while his co-pilot and friend, Earl Watters, paid tribute to him online, calling him an amazing friend and crewmate. An eyewitness named Max told ABC News he saw the helicopter break apart mid-air, with the rotor detaching and the aircraft plunging into the river. He described the sound as a “sonic boom” and noted how quickly emergency services responded. The National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
