Royal fans think they’ve spotted

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla’s latest royal portraits were recently unveiled at the National Gallery. Painted to commemorate the 2023 coronation, Charles’ portrait, created by Peter Kuhfeld, features the monarch in the Throne Room at St. James’ Palace, wearing his Robe of State and naval uniform. Camilla’s portrait, painted by Paul Benny, depicts her in the garden room at Clarence House. Kuhfeld, who worked on Charles’ portrait for over 18 months after five sittings, aimed to capture both the man and the monarch.

Social media users, however, were quick to notice an unexpected detail in King Charles’ portrait, with many speculating that a white lacy bra appeared draped over his right shoulder. Although it is highly unlikely that such an item would be included in a royal portrait, the resemblance sparked numerous humorous reactions online. Kuhfeld commented that the King seemed pleased with the final piece, though the artist acknowledged the challenge of portraying a public figure.
