Donald Trump suggests U-turn

Former US President Donald Trump has once again hinted at seeking a third term in office, despite the constitutional ban. After initially suggesting the idea earlier this year and even releasing ‘Trump 2028’ merchandise, Trump later dismissed the notion. However, during a speech to US troops at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, he appeared to reconsider, joking about a possible fourth term and reiterating his unfounded claims that the 2020 election was rigged. Trump referred to his current term as his third, sparking speculation about his political intentions.

The Twenty-Second Amendment of the US Constitution explicitly prohibits a president from serving more than two terms, a rule established after Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four-term presidency. If Trump were to pursue a third term, potential strategies could include swapping roles with Vice President JD Vance or attempting to amend the constitution. However, these approaches would face significant legal and political challenges. While his remarks stirred controversy, any concrete plans to seek a third term remain speculative.
