People stunned seeing staggering amount

Despite his campaign promise to cut government spending, Donald Trump’s second term has seen a surge in federal expenditure. In his first 100 days back in office since January, Trump has signed numerous executive orders, including renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and disbanding the Department of Education. He even appointed Elon Musk as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to streamline spending. While DOGE claims to have saved \$170 billion through cuts and asset sales, these claims are yet to be verified.

CBS News reports that Trump’s administration spent \$220 billion more in this period compared to the same timeframe under President Biden last year, making it one of the highest spending periods in the past decade, except for 2021 during the pandemic. Most of this increased spending went to Medicare, Social Security, defense, and veterans’ programs. At the same time, Trump’s administration has overseen mass layoffs in several departments, calling them efforts to remove excess bureaucracy. Some people expressed surprise at the spending surge, with one commenting: “So much for the government spending cuts.”
