Earth’s core rich with reservoir of gold that could be
Recent research by scientists at Göttingen University in Germany has uncovered that the Earth’s core contains an extraordinary reservoir of gold, worth an estimated \$169.6 sextillion. Geochemist Nils Messling revealed that gold and other precious metals are leaking from the core into the mantle, with enough gold to potentially cover the entire land surface of the Earth in a layer 20 inches thick. However, this immense fortune is buried approximately 3,000 kilometers below the Earth’s surface, making it inaccessible with today’s technology.
ChatGPT calculated that the core contains around 1.6 quadrillion tons of gold, worth about \$106,000 per kilogram at current market prices. Although this amount of gold is staggering, releasing such a vast quantity onto the market would cause a dramatic drop in its value. The study also found traces of core-derived materials in volcanic rocks from Hawaii, suggesting a slow but steady release of precious metals over geological time. Geochemist Matthias Willbold emphasized that these findings indicate the core is less isolated than once believed, with massive amounts of mantle material continually cycling to the surface.
