Barack Obama has brutal message to anyone ‘disappointed’ by Donald Trump’s actions as president
Former President Barack Obama is calling on Democrats to take a stand against the Trump administration’s actions and policies. He expressed concern over the current political climate and urged his party to be more proactive.
Obama’s comments come as Donald Trump’s approval ratings continue to fall. A recent poll conducted between June 1 and 30 showed that fewer than half of Americans support Trump’s leadership, giving him an overall approval rating of -7.
Addressing Democrats specifically, Obama encouraged them not to be passive. At a private fundraiser on July 11, he said that instead of complaining or retreating, Democrats need to “toughen up” and take meaningful action.
He criticized those who claim to care about core values like free speech but remain silent when it matters. Obama emphasized that supporting free speech means defending it even when it’s unpopular or difficult.
According to Obama, what the country needs right now is bravery and moral clarity. He urged his fellow Democrats not to disengage just because they’re disappointed but to get involved and make a difference.
The former president has long warned that the U.S. is at risk of sliding into autocracy under Trump, where a single leader holds unchecked power.
In June, Obama compared the situation in the U.S. to regimes like Hungary under Viktor Orbán, where elections happen but true democratic principles—such as accountability, equal representation, and the rule of law—are being eroded. He warned the U.S. is “dangerously close” to such a shift.
