My Dad Invited.

When my dad called to invite my brother Owen and me to his wedding, I thought the hardest part would be seeing him marry the woman who tore our family apart. I didn’t expect my quiet little brother to be planning something unforgettable.

Owen, just 12, used to be the sweetest kid—full of love for our mom. But after the divorce, I watched that kindness fade. Our dad, Evan, had cheated on Mom with a coworker, Dana. When Mom found them together, her world shattered, and so did ours.

Mom tried to save the marriage, but Dad left quickly, moving in with Dana and filing for divorce. Owen struggled with the abandonment, questioning whether our dad even loved us anymore. We both watched Mom fall apart—losing weight, crying constantly, and holding onto hope that never returned.

A year later, Dad announced he was marrying Dana and expected us to celebrate it. We were pressured by relatives to attend. Owen reluctantly agreed, but something in his quiet acceptance unsettled me. I remembered him asking to order itching powder weeks before.

At the wedding, Owen calmly offered to hang up Dana’s jacket—and secretly applied the itching powder. During the ceremony, she started scratching uncontrollably, eventually fleeing mid-vows. She returned disheveled and embarrassed, and the rest of the ceremony was tense and awkward.

Later, Owen told me he didn’t want to hurt Dana, just give her a taste of the humiliation Mom endured. He felt things were a bit more balanced now.

Dad won’t speak to us, and relatives demand apologies. But I’m not sorry. Owen’s act, though mischievous, gave a voice to the pain everyone else ignored.
