King Charles Gives Queen Camilla A New Royal Title in Unprecedented Move
King Charles has unexpectedly granted Queen Camilla a new royal title ahead of her 78th birthday. According to the Royal Navy, she is now officially known as the Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom.
This historic appointment makes Camilla the first woman to ever receive the honorary naval title, which can only be bestowed by the sovereign following a nomination by the First Sea Lord, Sir Gwyn Jenkins.
Sir Gwyn Jenkins released a statement on July 16, praising Camilla’s new role and emphasizing that the title will “further enhance Her Majesty’s relationship with the Service.”
During her visit to HM Naval Base Devonport, Jenkins noted that her presence was a “tremendous boost to morale,” and that the honorary title reflects the deep respect she holds within the Royal Navy.
When Charles became king in September 2022, he initially gave Camilla the title “Queen Consort,” fulfilling the late Queen Elizabeth II’s wishes and marking the first time the title had been used in over eight decades.
However, just before his coronation, Charles made a last-minute change, announcing that she would simply be called “Queen Camilla.”
Camilla has previously opened up about her marriage to King Charles, describing their bond as one based on friendship. In April, she said they often lead busy, separate lives, but always find time to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company.
