Donald Trump has savage response to Stephen Colbert’s late show being axed as he makes claim about ‘who is next’

Following the announcement that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end in 2026, many are questioning the timing of the decision. Just days earlier, Colbert criticized Paramount for paying Donald Trump $16 million, calling it a “big fat bribe” related to edited debate footage.

Trump quickly reacted to the news on Truth Social, celebrating Colbert’s exit and mocking his performance and ratings. He also took shots at other late-night hosts, claiming Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld is superior to them all.

Paramount and CBS executives, including George Cheeks and Amy Reisenbach, issued a statement explaining that ending The Late Show was strictly a financial decision. They emphasized that it had nothing to do with the show’s quality or recent events at the company.

The final episode is set to air in May 2026, marking the end of Colbert’s long run as host. The network praised Colbert as “irreplaceable” and stated that they would retire the Late Show franchise altogether.

Trump’s online comments were particularly scathing, calling Colbert untalented and suggesting Jimmy Kimmel might be next. He also referred to NBC’s late-night lineup as ruined.

Some viewers are suspicious of the show’s cancellation, especially since Colbert had recently spoken out against Paramount’s multimillion-dollar settlement with Trump. Critics believe it could be politically motivated.

Senator Elizabeth Warren echoed these concerns on X, calling for transparency about the cancellation and implying that it may have been influenced by Colbert’s outspoken criticism of his network’s parent company.
