Good to know

Bronchitis occurs when the bronchial tubes, responsible for moving air to and from the lungs, become inflamed. This condition often causes symptoms like persistent coughing, mucus buildup, fatigue, mild fever, shortness of breath, and chest discomfort. It can be acute, lasting a few weeks, or chronic, recurring over several months or years. Acute cases are usually caused by viruses, while chronic bronchitis often stems from smoking or long-term exposure to harmful substances.

Bronchitis may last longer than usual due to various reasons. A weakened immune system, continuous exposure to smoke or pollutants, and conditions like asthma or COPD can delay recovery. Sometimes, a secondary bacterial infection may develop, and insufficient rest or high stress can make symptoms worse.

Since bronchitis is commonly caused by viruses, antibiotics generally aren’t effective. Using them unnecessarily may lead to antibiotic resistance and side effects. They are only helpful when a bacterial infection is confirmed, so treatment mainly focuses on easing symptoms.

Natural remedies are often effective in relieving bronchitis symptoms. These include traditional methods that reduce inflammation, soothe the throat, and improve breathing, helping the body heal faster.

Herbal teas such as ginger, peppermint, and chamomile can reduce inflammation, ease congestion, and calm the airways. Breathing in steam or using a humidifier may also help relieve symptoms, especially with added essential oils like eucalyptus.

Practicing breathing exercises, staying well hydrated, and consuming soothing ingredients like honey, lemon, ginger, and turmeric can significantly improve respiratory health and reduce coughing.

If symptoms worsen, last beyond three weeks, or include severe signs like chest pain or high fever, medical care should be sought, as it could signal a more serious illness.
