Al Pacino Briefly Di.ed From Covid
Many celebrities have kept their Covid-19 experiences private, but legendary actor Al Pacino recently shared a shocking story. In an interview with The New York Times podcast “The Interview,” the 84-year-old opened up about a life-altering moment from the pandemic that inspired deep reflection and even his new memoir, Sunny Boy.
During the interview, Pacino revealed that he contracted Covid during the pandemic and experienced what he described as death. “I was sitting there at my house, and I was gone. Like that,” he recalled. “I didn’t have a pulse.” The situation quickly escalated, prompting an emergency medical response.
According to Pacino, paramedics and doctors arrived within minutes. “I had about six paramedics in that living room, and there were two doctors,” he said. “They had these outfits that looked like they were from outer space.” When he regained consciousness, he was startled to find the room full of medical personnel. “It was kind of shocking to open your eyes and see that,” Pacino said. “The first time that’s ever happened.”
The doctors were equally stunned but relieved. “He’s back. He’s here,” they reportedly said, confirming his return from the brink.
Despite the dramatic experience, Pacino said he didn’t have any mystical visions or a near-death epiphany. “I didn’t see the white light or anything like that,” he admitted. Still, the moment left a lasting impression.
The brush with death changed how Pacino views mortality. “It’s gone, you’re gone,” he said somberly. While he doesn’t like that idea, the experience encouraged him to reflect deeply — and to write Sunny Boy, released on October 8, 2024.
