Kelly Clarkson admits she spanks her children if they misbehave
Kelly Clarkson has openly shared her stance on disciplining her children, revealing she is “not above” giving them a light spanking when necessary.
The singer and talk show host admitted that while she does use spanking, it can be “tricky” to discipline her kids in public because it is widely frowned upon.
Speaking on Atlanta’s 94.1 radio station in 2018, Clarkson clarified that she doesn’t hit hard, but uses a light smack as a form of discipline. She explained that her own parents spanked her and she feels it had no negative effect on her life.
She acknowledged public judgment over the practice but said she personally sees nothing wrong with it. However, she does not resort to spanking immediately—she first gives her children a clear warning.
Clarkson explained that she might tell them, “I’m going to spank you on your bottom if you don’t stop right now.” She says this approach has reduced misbehavior.
The Grammy winner shares two children—River Rose, eight, and Remington Alexander, six—with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. She has frequently spoken about parenting challenges and her feelings of “mum guilt.”
In a 2016 interview with Redbook, she admitted that balancing work and motherhood is emotionally difficult, often leaving her in tears as she worries about missing precious moments with her kids.
