Milwaukee officer Kendall Corder lost his life — City in mourning
Milwaukee Mourns Fallen Officer
Milwaukee paused in sorrow this weekend to honor Officer Kendall Corder, a six-year veteran of the city’s police force, who died on Sunday, June 29, after being critically injured in an ambush-style shooting the previous week.
The Ambush Incident
Officer Corder, 32, and his partner, Officer Christopher McCray, 29, were responding to a report of a person armed with a weapon near 25th and Garfield on Thursday, June 26. The call escalated to shots fired while the officers were en route.
Tragic Outcome
As they exited their squad car, both were unexpectedly fired upon. Corder was critically wounded, including severe heart damage, and placed on life support. McCray sustained injuries to his back and foot but was released two days later.
Community Tributes
A procession of police vehicles accompanied Corder’s body to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office. Community members, fellow officers, and city officials attended, paying respects to his sacrifice and bravery.
A Hero Remembered
The Milwaukee Police Association described Corder’s actions as heroic, noting that he and his partner risked their lives to protect the public, reflecting the daily courage of officers across the city.
Suspect in Custody
Police arrested 22-year-old Tremaine Jones shortly after the attack. He has a prior conviction for a stolen vehicle and is now in Milwaukee County Jail awaiting formal charges.
Enduring Legacy
Officer Corder is remembered not only for his uniform but for his courage and dedication. As tributes continue, the Milwaukee Police Department and community honor his service and the ultimate sacrifice he made to protect others.
