Gordon Ramsay issues health warning after surgery
Skin cancer is a growing health concern worldwide, and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is helping raise awareness about the risks.
In the United States, one in five people will develop skin cancer before turning 70, with around 9,500 new cases diagnosed each year. Melanoma is among the deadliest types, though other forms, like basal cell carcinoma, are also serious.
Ramsay revealed on Instagram that he recently underwent surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma, a common type of skin cancer. He shared photos showing a bandage and several stitches just below his ear.
In his caption, he thanked the medical team at The Skin Associates for their prompt care and urged followers to wear sunscreen, adding humor by saying, “I promise it’s not a facelift! I’d need a refund.”
Cancer Research UK commented on his post, praising Ramsay for highlighting the importance of sun safety and reminding people to seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen generously.
Basal cell carcinoma typically appears as a small, translucent bump on sun-exposed areas like the neck and head. It may present as a growth or sore that does not heal, signaling a visual change in the skin.
This is not Ramsay’s first health-related post on social media. Last year, he shared his recovery from a serious cycling accident, emphasizing the importance of wearing helmets. Fans continue to send their well wishes as Ramsay recovers from his skin cancer surgery and encourages others to prioritize their health.
