A detail on hats in Trump’s White House “merch room” raises serious concern
Donald Trump’s love for MAGA hats has become a talking point again after photos of his White House collection sparked debate online.
During a visit from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump proudly showed off his display of hats. Aides shared a photo, leading one journalist to quip, “Exit through a gift shop,” suggesting the scene summed up U.S. politics today.
The room, once Bill Clinton’s private study, now showcases Trump-themed merchandise, including $399 “Never Surrender” sneakers and $330 Stefano Ricci ties. Trump has even encouraged foreign leaders to take items as souvenirs, telling one group, “Grab what you want.”
Over the years, Trump’s hat line has grown beyond the iconic red “Make America Great Again” cap. Following his 2020 defeat and 2024 comeback, new slogans and colors appeared — even Elon Musk reportedly tried on a “Dark MAGA” hat.
But the most controversial addition has been hats reading “Trump 2028,” raising questions about a possible third term. Since the U.S. Constitution limits presidents to two terms, critics were quick to express alarm.
Talk of extending Trump’s presidency isn’t new. He has hinted at the idea, and allies like Steve Bannon have openly suggested scenarios where Trump could remain in power, with unofficial “Trump 2028” merchandise already circulating.
Though most analysts agree only an extreme crisis could delay a presidential transition, the speculation around “Trump 2028” continues to fuel debate — ensuring the controversy is far from settled.
