Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’
Republicans in the House passed Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping legislative package that extends the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, introduces tax cuts on tips and overtime, and redirects funds to military and border security. It also creates tax deductions for interest on U.S.-made auto loans, a \$200 tax on gun silencers, and a \$500 increase in the child tax credit. These cuts, however, will be offset by reduced Medicaid and SNAP benefits, which the Congressional Budget Office says will leave 8.6 million people without healthcare and save about \$1 trillion.
Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have slammed the bill as a rushed effort that disproportionately benefits the wealthy and cuts crucial support for low-income Americans. AOC warned that 13.7 million people would lose healthcare and that the bill was written “on the back of a napkin.” Hakeem Jeffries called it a “big, bad bill” and a “broken promise,” while Republicans claimed it will revive the economy and lead to a “Golden Age” for America. The bill now heads to the Senate for further debate.
