Anthony Joshua Breaks Silence Following Fatal Car Crash That Killed Two Friends
Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time since a tragic car accident in Nigeria claimed the lives of two of his closest friends. The boxer shared a message on social media as he continues to mourn the devastating loss.
Joshua was a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle when it crashed into a parked truck along an expressway in Ogun State on Monday morning around 11 a.m. He was taken to hospital with injuries initially described as minor.
Two passengers, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, were pronounced dead at the scene. Ghami served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was a trainer within his boxing team.
Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling at high speed and suffered a tire blowout while overtaking. Emergency responders pulled Joshua from the wreckage before transporting him for medical care.
The driver, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with multiple offenses, including death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license. He has denied all allegations, claiming the crash was unavoidable due to brake failure.
Joshua has since returned to the UK after being discharged from hospital on New Year’s Eve. Memorial services for Ghami and Ayodele are scheduled to take place in London.
In his first post since the accident, Joshua shared photos honoring his friends, captioned simply, “My Brother’s Keeper.” Fellow boxers and promoter Eddie Hearn offered condolences, expressing deep sorrow and support for those affected.
