Artemis II astronaut breaks silence with historic four-word remark on radio
Famous phrases like “Houston, we have a problem” and “one small step for mankind” are widely recognized even outside space enthusiasts.
The Artemis II mission has already made history, with astronauts Christina Koch, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Jeremy Hansen launching aboard a 322-foot rocket on April 1 through NASA and the Canadian Space Agency.
A key milestone of the mission is its goal to surpass the record for the farthest distance humans have traveled from Earth, previously achieved during the Apollo 13 mission in 1970.
During the flight, the spacecraft moved behind the Moon, causing a planned 40-minute communication blackout with Mission Control in Houston due to signal obstruction.
Communication was restored on schedule when Orion’s systems came back online, and Koch confirmed successful contact, expressing relief at reconnecting with Earth.
Koch also delivered remarks highlighting global unity, space exploration, and future scientific development, emphasizing that humanity’s expansion into space should still be grounded in care for Earth and one another.
Overall, the mission has been described as a success so far, with the crew now continuing their return journey back toward Earth.
