Florida Woman Finds $1Billion Deposited Into Her Bank Account
Imagine waking up to see nearly a billion dollars in your bank account. For Julia Yonkowski, this wasn’t exciting—it was terrifying. The Largo, Florida resident expected about $20, but instead saw a balance of $999,985,855.94.
While using an ATM, she tried to withdraw $20 but was warned it would overdraft her account and trigger a fee. Confused, she canceled the transaction and checked her balance.
That’s when she discovered the shocking amount of money in her account. Unsure how it got there, she avoided touching anything and left the funds untouched for the rest of the day.
The next day, she attempted to contact her bank but couldn’t reach anyone since it was the weekend. The situation made her increasingly anxious, as she feared the consequences of having money that wasn’t hers.
By Monday, June 21, 2021, she was still trying to get answers. Reaching a real person proved difficult due to automated systems, but she hoped weekday hours would help her resolve the issue.
Despite what others might think, she didn’t see the money as a blessing. Instead, she felt frightened and refused to withdraw any of it, knowing it could lead to serious legal trouble.
Eventually, the bank explained the truth: the balance actually reflected a large negative amount used to freeze the account for fraud prevention. This was triggered after her husband’s recent passing, as he had been a joint account holder.
