Former Top Democrat Senator Sentenced To 11-Year Prison Term
Former senator Bob Menendez described his 11-year corruption sentence as the result of a politically driven prosecution.
He pointed to the legal challenges faced by Donald Trump as proof, arguing that the justice system is influenced by bias.
Menendez was convicted of accepting bribes and secretly working in the interests of Egypt.
This made him the first U.S. official found guilty of acting on behalf of a foreign government while still in office.
Speaking outside the courthouse, he echoed Trump’s claims, calling the process corrupt and politically motivated.
However, he did not clarify whether he would pursue a presidential pardon.
After stepping down from the Senate last year, he is now reportedly weighing a return to politics, potentially as an independent candidate.
