Elizabeth Banks says she ‘can’t understand’
Elizabeth Banks has spoken out following the 2024 U.S. election, questioning why many White women supported Donald Trump over Kamala Harris.
Trump secured a second term after defeating Harris, who had stepped in as the Democratic candidate after Joe Biden withdrew. A victory would have made Harris the first female U.S. president.
Despite that possibility, 53% of White women voters chose Trump. Banks said she struggled to understand that outcome and openly questioned their decision.
Referencing her role as Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games, Banks encouraged women to follow the character’s evolution from compliance to resistance.
She described Effie as a powerful example of someone who benefits from a system before eventually recognizing its injustice and choosing to stand against it.
Banks had actively supported Harris during the campaign, even joining events promoting reproductive rights and urging voter participation ahead of Election Day.
Meanwhile, Harris has indicated she may run again in 2028, saying she is considering another bid while emphasizing the need for change that better serves the American public.
