Donald Trump breaks silence

Donald Trump spoke publicly after a shooting scare disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night, forcing the event to be cancelled. It was his first time attending the dinner as president after skipping it several times in the past.

The evening had started normally, with Trump receiving a warm welcome as guests settled in at the Hilton hotel. However, the atmosphere changed suddenly when five gunshots were heard inside the ballroom.

Security immediately rushed Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, senior cabinet members, and other guests out of the venue. A suspect was quickly arrested, and authorities confirmed the individual had not breached the protected area.

Trump said he first mistook the sound for a tray falling, something he had heard before at similar events. He explained that some people realized right away it was gunfire, while others were slower to react.

He also said Melania understood the danger instantly, recalling that she told him it was “a bad noise.” Both were escorted out within seconds as Secret Service agents and police responded rapidly.

Trump praised law enforcement for acting quickly and professionally. Although he wanted the dinner to continue, officials decided cancelling was the safest option. He said he respected that decision and hoped the event could be rescheduled within 30 days.

When asked about being targeted again after previous assassination attempts, Trump said high-profile and influential leaders are often the ones attacked. He added that while he disliked the situation, he viewed it as proof of the impact he believes he has made on the country.
